My son lives and trains in Massachusetts and when he goes down to visit family in Maryland we have set him up at Royce Gracie Academy of Montgomery County. Chico has helped me arrange classes and easy payments. He has followed up with me with pictures and videos as well as give me feedback on my son’s progress and efforts there.
My Son competes and Chico has ensured me That he would push him and keep him in shape while he was on vacation. I have enrolled him there now for 3 trips as a visitor and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Royce Gracie Academy of Montgomery County to anyone.

Many martial arts schools do little more than separate nervous parents from their money, while imparting no useful benefits to their children. Royce Gracie Academy of Montgomery County (RGAMC) is not such a school. At RGAMC, no boards are uselessly broken, nor do students engage in slow, dance-like choreography, nor is any culture stereotyped and fetishized.
At RGAMC, your child will be taught how to effectively defend him/herself. The advent of mixed martial arts (MMA) in the last 30 years has shown that the most effective fighters have skills in multiple martial arts, allowing them to both strike and grapple, and to do so in ways that are unexpected by the opponent. Many martial arts schools only teach from one art’s perspective (e.g., karate, taekwondo, etc.). At RGAMC, students learn:
the grappling and force/weight transfer genius of Brazilian/Gracie jiu jitsu
the traditionally athletic grappling of Judo,
the excitement and beauty of boxing, and
the rapid, dynamic striking of muay thai, known as the “art of eight limbs,” as it involves strikes with shins, knees, elbows, and fistsAs effective as RGAMC is as a self-defense school, martial arts there are not just about self-defense. They are also about physical fitness, learning and fun. At RGAMC, students from diverse backgrounds become friends as they grapple with and strike one another and engage in calisthenics and cardiovascular training together. Children learn grit, resilience and sportsmanship as well as complex fighting skills.
Since starting at RGAMC, my daughter has gained the confidence to defend herself and her friends, as well as a love of sport and fitness. She has a group of buddies that are developing into people of strong character, many of whom come from different backgrounds than she does. I could not recommend this school enough.
